Which animals eat dried mealworms?
Wild garden birds, chickens and other poultry, reptiles, fish, sugar gliders and hedgehogs all take dried mealworms readily. They are a treat rather than a complete feed, so serve them alongside a balanced diet.
How much should I feed?
For garden birds, a small handful in a tray or feeder each morning is plenty. For chickens, keep mealworms to roughly 10% of daily intake.
Do dried mealworms need soaking?
No. Soaking in warm water for a few minutes softens them and adds moisture, which helps in hot weather and when feeding fledglings, but it is optional.
How long does a 1Kg bag last?
Feeding a small handful daily to garden birds, a 1Kg bag typically lasts six to eight weeks. Chickens will get through it faster.
